To provide tuition assistance for needy people attending Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology, annual scholarships are given out from the Naples Lions Club and Individual Donors.
A new twist has been added to our work schedule this year. Volunteers from the Naples Lions Club participate in \"Working at the voting Poles\". Collier county pays our Lions Club to work at the voting poles in March, August and November for the presidential election and all moneys go to our club. Earnings from this project goes into our project fund. This is a good money maker and thanks to all participants for there support.
The Naples Lions Club will participates in many community vision and hearing screening programs at open houses at some of the Banks in Naples.
We also participate in screening vision and hearing at the Festival of La Familia in Golden Gate in the spring.
Local Eye Care Trust Fund providing eye exams, treatments and prescription glasses to needy people (mostly children.)
Join us and have fun. Collection and dispersing of thousands of eye glasses. Support of eye glass program 165,000 pairs to the Philippines. Five ( 5 ) stations have been set up for the purpose of examining eyes for glasses.
While sight is the major institutional goal of
Lionism, bylaws also direct us to take an active role in the civi-cultural, social and moral welfare of the community. We welcome membership
interest from any man or woman or legal majority, good moral character and community reputation who recognizes Lionism as a vehicle tho they can make a contribution to our community and surrounding communities. Call us if you would like to become a Lion. We welcome new members.
Membership is by invitation. Our membership is from all walks of life and is comprised of both male and female.
Family memberships are encouraged.
IMMOKALEE, FLORIDA
Adult Vision and Health Screening is done in Immokalee, FL. Lions Clubs of Dist. 35-I lead by Dist Gov. Bob Woomer, conducted our Annual Vision-Health Program at the Community Center in Immokalee. Between 200 and 400 adults are screened for Diabetes, Hypertension, Vision Abnormalities, Glaucoma, etc. Eye glasses are given to needy residents free of charge from donated glasses given to Lions Clubs. In 2008 screenings will be held Sunday January 20th and Saturday March 15, 2008
Many Lions from District 35-I volunteer for these screenings as well as student nurses from Edison College. 105 Volunteer workers--- Lions Clubs represented--Bonita Springs, Estero So.Ft.Myers, Ft. Myers High Noon, Lehigh Acres, Lehigh Nites, Marco Island, Naples Nites, Naples Lions Club.

Congressional Glaucoma Foundation, Welch Allyn Corp. Collier County Health Dept. Senior Friendship Center, Medical Dental Clinic of Naples, Prevent Blindness of Florida, Social Service Agency of Immokalee, Retinal Specialist from Basscom Palmer Eye Institute, Opticians from Lenscrafters. and five retired ophthalmologists -- and a special thanks to the Interperters and community workers.
PEDIATRIC AND VISION AND HEARING SCREENINGS
The Naples Lions club works together with the Early Learning Coalition of SW Florida to screen preschool children ages 2-5 in day care centers in Collier and Lee Counties. Last year we screened 850 children and found 73 children who were referred for complete eye and/or hearing examinations. This will catch amblyopia "Lazy Eye" at an early age and allow easier and more complete treatment and vision recovery.
15th Annual Golf Tournament
Lion Howard Freedman is chairman of our 15th Annual Golf Tournament to be held Saturday February 16th at The Golf Lodge at the Quarry on Immokalee Road at 1:00 pm. Entry fee $75.00 per person includes Golf, Cart, Lunch, awards and prizes.
